Maria KeaneKarl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that FC Bayern Munich was once interested in Jose Mourinho and that the Portuguese was not averse either. The former CEO of the record champions now explained why an engagement failed.
“Mourinho was a candidate. He wanted to come to Germany to train Bayern,” said Rummenigge.
The German record champions finally decided on a coach “with a different profile and different characteristics that are more suited to Bayern,” added Rummenigge.
The 66-year-old has great respect for Mourinho for his success: “I hope he has success in Rome because he’s a great coach.” The Portuguese has been in office in the Italian capital since last summer.
However, Rummenigge did not reveal when exactly “The Special One” was on the list at Bayern. Michael Ballack, who was under contract in Munich from 2002 to 2006, also spoke about appropriate considerations on Säbener Strasse last May.
in the image-Podcast “Bayern-Insider” reported the ex-national player that Bayern had considered “a few years ago” about an engagement with his former Chelsea coach.
